25A – What’s Next?

Assignment 25A – What’s Next?

What I Think Is Next:

I think the next step for Scoober should be to consider an easy conversion to eco-friendly or electric scooters with a trademark look or sticker that makes them easily identifiable while on the streets. That way as a company, we are not contributing to pre-existing gas emissions and overconsumption by offering an easy conversion kit to make our transportation needs more environmentally friendly.

Existing Market Interviews:

1 – This interviewee had a lot of input and thought adding a nighttime component would be optimal because it can be daunting to walk home from places like library West late at night alone, as a young woman. She stated that she would feel much safer on a scooter with another party present.

2 – Interviewee number two owns a scooter and stated they would really enjoy the social component of things and mentioned that a scooter 'carpool karaoke' could really elevate the experience of waiting silently at lights and crosswalks. He also said that it would be a really revolutionary way to meet others that may have the same classes or need to study in similar subjects.

3 – The last interviewee also stated that an after dark feature would be good because there are options like SNAP on campus available but they do not transport from the bars and clubs. He stated that it can be a real pain to get home after a night out and that sometimes you want to go home before your group but don't have anyone to split the Uber/Lyft with, this option could totally eliminate that issue and not perpetrate the problem of drunk driving.

Reflection:

After conducting these three interviews, it definitely shows that different people's brains go to different places when talking about improvements. They all had new ideas on how to improve my service.

But what makes the most sense, I think, would be to develop the late night feature like two of the interviewees stated that it can tend to be dangerous to walk home after dark and that drunk driving can be a major problem in this day in age.

The social element of things was also mentioned as a positive benefactor, even adding a possible music feature to make things more fun.

New Market:

I think a new market that I have not previously thought of are environmentally conscious people.

New Market Interviews:

1 – This interviewee made some good points although the most prominent thing that stuck out was  to make sure they are good drivers and not reckless because in her opinion scooters are not nearly as safe as cars.

2 –  The second interviewee loved the idea of making a conversion kit from gas to electric but had some concerns as to how applicable that would be.

Reflection:

What surprised me most was how both of my second interviewees went to places of concernment such as safety and plausibility towards the Scoober service. However, they were overall supportive of the idea as a whole.

Hopefully, to offset the safety problem everyone would have a valid drivers license and take their passenger's as well as their own safety in high regard. I will have to look into the cost effectiveness of creating a conversion kit as well.

All-in-all, this assignment provided me with many new directions to head in with my company. I look forward to researching ways to implement them and the applicability of each new idea brought up by these interviews.

  1. Caroline,
I love both of these ideas of environmentally friendly scooters and the night-time feature. I think the easiest thing you could add to your business is the night-time feature, since college students are always out late at night and need other ways to get home besides walking alone at night. I think a lot of students would utilize that idea.

  2. Hi Caroline,
I think that the dark option might be a little dangerous especially if a student has has a few drinks and their driver has to keep their balance while driving. Not only can it cause an accident, regardless of the driver being sober, I don't know if people would want to drive around drunk people on their backs with the risk of getting thrown up on. I do think your other ideas can be implemented and would be a great idea to add on to your existing business plan.
