Book Review, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, Carol Dweck
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The general theme of Carol Dweck’s novel, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, is to facilitate a “growth mindset” in readers. Through years of experience and extensive research Dweck has devised a method to encourage success by providing easily implemented suggestions to improve the mindset of her readers.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
As a Neuropsychology major I was thrilled to see a book relevant to my interests. Although Dweck’s book was germane, I found it to be a bit redundant to what I already know.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
This would be simple to do, because it is all about reframing one’s state of mind. An exercise could be just associating your own definitions for a “fixed mindset” and a “growth mindset.” Then applying personal ways to move one’s own current mindset to a growing one, that fosters creativity, positive thoughts, and personal development pertaining to entrepreneurial success.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
She made it easily accessible to understand that mindset cannot be boiled down to just the way our brains work, but it is a delineation to rewiring our thoughts through improving the way we perceive ourselves, others, and how we can kindle triumphant success in all aspects of life.
The book sounds very interesting, the growth mindset idea ties into the class a lot considering how we have to believe in our product for it to grow and become what we want. The class emphasizes the fact that we have to build up our business idea and consider the different factors that will make it up. Having the right mindset can change how you act and what you do.
ReplyDeleteHey Caroline. This book sounds very interesting and maybe one I want to check out sometime. This idea of rewiring our thoughts is one I've heard about a lot, and I definitely think it would be cool to hear about it from the perspective of a professional in the field. I think this concept is something I've personally had success with in my life, and I can attest to the fact that trying to actively think more positively will change your mood and demeanor, and I hope more people will look into it. Great job!
